Paying for Location Aug 22, 2009
My sister and I had a three night stay at the Hotel Intercontinental on Michigan Avenue during the 2009 Chicago Travel Buddy Meetup.
The obvious draw for the hotel is location, location, location. It is situated directly on Michigan Avenue, or as it is also known, the Magnificent Mile. The exterior of the hotel is beautuful and the door/curb side service was excellent. The guys outside were always on top of things, whether it was grabbing bags, opening doors, or hailing cabs. The concierge/front desk could take a few lessons. They were constantly understaffed- I never saw more than one front desk agent at a time and they were far from friendly. The room itself was supposed to be an upgrade but it was not large at all. The beds were OK and the pillows were not great for such a high-end hotel. The bathroom was the biggest problem- there was a six inch ledge that ran about three feet across and that was it for counterspace. For two girls this is VERY bad, lol. The amenities were pretty much non-existent unless you were willing to pay hefty surcharges. Nothing was included, which is odd because my sister is a Platinum level guest of the Intercontinental Hotel Group. One plus was the Strabucks located in the lobby. It is always a plus to have a nearby coffee source! We didn't try the wine bar Eno but it looked interesting- wine, cheese, and chocolates, yumm! I think for my next trip to Chicago I will try a different hotel, maybe a boutique hotel or some other chain. All in all it was a free stay so in that sense it was perfect! |

Couple in Mid-40's on vacation Feb 02, 2008
Simply the best location we've discovered to enjoy Chicago. Front Door right on the Magnificent Mile. Ask for the historic tower and a corner king with view of Chicago's architectural wonders Tribune Building, Wrigley Building and Chicago River....read entire review at TravelPost.com

Not a Bad Chicago Hotel Nov 07, 2007
I had a pretty good stay at the Intercontinental Chicago. The room was comfortable (although not that big) with a big flat screen TV and functioning high speed internet. The staff was very friendly, although the bellboy sent me in the wrong direct...read entire review at TravelPost.com

InterContinental Chicago Feb 25, 2006
The Hotel Inter-Continental is one of my favorite hotels in Chicago, reflecting a great combination of old and new. This is one of the more historical and sophisticated properties on the Magnificent Mile, but you would not know this by entering it...read entire review at TravelPost.com

Thanks pal, take us to the Intercontinental Hotel. After some initial confusion, we found her room. Goodnight Joanne!!! It was now around 3:30 am and I had a 6 block walk to my hotel. You know that wall I've mentioned? Well, I hit mine… The personal wall |

The Intercontinental Hotel on Michigan Avenue is deceptively plain looking. While it does have the stone facade that sets it apart from the steel and glass that dominates the strip, unlike some of it's fancier brothers it's street level view is rather bland… Chicago Staycation |
