Magnificent Mile Aug 10, 2012
One of the hotels that i can't forget, the hotel building is a land mark of Chicago downtown and the location is "Michigan Ave" next to best restaurants and shopping malls in the city.

I did not spend much time in room simply because Chicago has a lot to offer but a remember the bed was very comfortable.

Hotel staff are friendly and nice, the go beyond work and know what hospitality is about.

Stayed at the old building, but i can't complain because i liked the classic furniture.

And yes yes i would stay again !

Historic and quite lavish hotel Apr 21, 2010
The Intercontinentl Chicago is a historic and quite lavish hotel. I was hosted here during my 4 days business trip to Chicago. It is a beautiful hotel but quite pricey. However, that price make for great convenience of location downtown. Close to all major attractions, dinning, and night life. The suite I stayed in was newly rennovated with all the five star comforts.

There is a great pool at the hotel, I was unable to use it though as my shedule was really tight. Cozy lobby equipped with a full bar and great buffet breakfast. Now I'm not a chocolate fan, but if you are, you will want to check out the chocolate stand next to the wine and cheese stand next to the bar. I managed to enjoy a nice glass of French red wine with my colleagued the first night.

They have a great conference room that we used on the second day.

Remember that because of the location, this hotel is pricey/expensive. But nothing beats it's location. If you can afford it, I highly recommend it. It seems that there is continuous improvement. A few rooms on my floor were being worked on, but nothing you would notice unless you are sitting there watching them come and go.

A definite plus for Intercontinental on Michigan Ave.

Not many of the chain hotels impress me much. I stayed here only because I was not paying for it. I would have chosen a smaller and more personable hotel otherwise. Nonetheless it served it's purpose.

Paying for Location Aug 22, 2009
My sister and I had a three night stay at the Hotel Intercontinental on Michigan Avenue during the 2009 Chicago Travel Buddy Meetup.

The obvious draw for the hotel is location, location, location. It is situated directly on Michigan Avenue, or as it is also known, the Magnificent Mile.

The exterior of the hotel is beautuful and the door/curb side service was excellent. The guys outside were always on top of things, whether it was grabbing bags, opening doors, or hailing cabs. The concierge/front desk could take a few lessons. They were constantly understaffed- I never saw more than one front desk agent at a time and they were far from friendly.

The room itself was supposed to be an upgrade but it was not large at all. The beds were OK and the pillows were not great for such a high-end hotel. The bathroom was the biggest problem- there was a six inch ledge that ran about three feet across and that was it for counterspace. For two girls this is VERY bad, lol.

The amenities were pretty much non-existent unless you were willing to pay hefty surcharges. Nothing was included, which is odd because my sister is a Platinum level guest of the Intercontinental Hotel Group.

One plus was the Strabucks located in the lobby. It is always a plus to have a nearby coffee source! We didn't try the wine bar Eno but it looked interesting- wine, cheese, and chocolates, yumm!

I think for my next trip to Chicago I will try a different hotel, maybe a boutique hotel or some other chain. All in all it was a free stay so in that sense it was perfect!
