The entire track can easily be walked in a few days. If you have a family, or not enough time - take a water taxi to Anchorage and casually walk back, or catch up with a water taxi at another bay (check which bays they stop at). Water taxis to Anchorage are $25 one-way per person, could be less for a family or group booking but check with the company.

Walking shoes are all you need on this track, it's a very easy walk with nothing that strenuous at all. A day pack with water, food, insect repellent and a warm top is probably all you need. It gets a bit cooler in the evening if you are still walking back.
