Museum of the Inquisition, Lima May 25, 2013
Housed in the very building where the Spanish inquisition once plied its trade, this small but well put together museum is worth visiting if you have time whilst in Peru.

Unfortunately, both the guided tours and the information boards are only in Spanish, and as I am more of the 'where is the loo?' spanish speaker, they were not much use at all.

On the positive side though, the exhibits, especially the grusome wax figures in the torture chamber, are more than able convey how this terrible period in Spanish history.

I was surprised to hear that they had only Spanish speaking tours at this place. When I was in Costa Rica and Nicaragua, both Spanish speaking countries, the tours were conducted in either English or Spanish.

Museo de la Inquisición Sep 28, 2011
I had lots of expectation about Museo de la Inquisición, because travel guide books make it seems like the coolest museum ever.

Anyway, the place is not bad, but its very far from what i was expecting.

Even thought travel guides make it seem like a very cool museum, the visit last like 10 or 15 minutes, the catacombs are very small and there are very few wax figures.

The ceiling in the first room is awesome.

Good thing its a short visit and its free, so if you are near by and have nothing better to do, maybe you should give it a chance.

YOU MUST SEE THIS! PERIOD. May 09, 2011
I really don't think I have to explain why people need to see the inquisition museum. The torture, the forced religion on the natives...seeing how the Spanish treated people is unreal. Also, they use dummies to demonstrate the torture techniques. An excellent piece of history, make sure you get a english guide if your spanish isn't the greatest. We didn't and I felt sort of cheated.

This place was kinda lame. There's an English speaking tour available and you get to see some wax figures and go down into an area that used to be like a dungeon or something. Our guide sounded like she was trying to justify the inquisition (Yes, they killed Jews, but only the ones that lied about secretly practicing"), which was really weird. The torture museum in San Francisco has more wax figures than this place. And yes, this place is so lame I just compared it to the torture museum in San Francisco. Skip this and go to the National Museum or one of the many other museums in Lima instead.
