The best places to ski in Santiago are Valle Nevado (an hour and a half away) and Portillo (two and a half hours, on the road to Argentina). Noteworthy is also El Colorado (lot of vertical) and La Parva (smaller but more difficult than the rest). Rental will be somewhere around the neighborhood of $20 in Santiago, while twice as much if not higher at the ski hills. There are companies that offer transportation and rental in one nice package. I don´t know their names, but look around ski places and you should find something. Lift tickets are about $50, while half days and weekday prices are also available (the latter not during high season which is during late July). Staying at the ski resorts is more expensive, somewhere around $150 but I have never done that so I`m pretty iffy on that info. That`s all I know. It is a beautiful place, have fun.
