Festivals festivals and again festival. Kathmandu is known as city of festivals.
Among of the many interesting traditional festivals, Indra Jatra is one of major cultural festival of Kathmandu Valley. This festival lasts for 8 days starting from mid september full moon. This Indra Jatra is mixture of religious, cultural and entertaining outdoor festival celebrates within core city of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan Durbar Square. The Chariots of living Goddess Kumari and others Hindu Gods taken to the different parts of core city and this is a right time to see the Goddess Kumari. Several street religious mask dance/drama etc shows with religious meanings could be seen here at Durbar square. Some statues of Bhairab and other religious symbols could be seen during this festival time only. Gatherings of lot of people to celebrate this festivals and all the local crowds is simply amazing.
The festivals celebration mostly arrange by local origin people of Kathmandu valley called Newari. Newari people of Nepal preserveing all these heritage, tradition and culture of Kathmandu valley from generation and its made Kathmandu a unique identity in the world till today for culture, art and festivals.
