arrival in Jakarta, Indonesia

This is the end of my first trip to Indonesia. I will miss my new friends and  I wish I was staying longer or could just hop over easier for the weekend. But reality is not as fun! I miss it for many reasons, but not included in those =  the bad traffic, smog and being bothered to buy stuff. I took pics of my last day at Sheraton Media Hotel, I loved staying there. The staff was nice and friendly, good breakfast, quiet hotel, we also could use the gym and spa for free...

From Pekanbaru to Yogyakarta
posted by:
Jun 02, 2008 - Jul 05, 2008
Ryan and I , two people who happened to meet in the most boring city in Indonesia, became friends and ended up being travbuddy.   Pekanbaru is a city located in Sumatera Island and basically there is nothing you could enjoy in this city. Sorry if I’m being too frank, but that’s the truth. Employment is the main reason why people are here. I’ve been stranded in Pekanbaru almost a year working for Schlumberger while Ryan had been stranded here for about 6 months teaching ...

these photos are the result of a day wandering around the city with no exact destination ; ) however here in jakarta and i believe also in the other part of the planet (singapore is not to be mentioned) bombing is considered to be a crime, so we can only enjoy these kinda street art only for a while. But at some ‘untouched’ area these urban art would last a bit longer.

Arriving in Bali!

which was really sad cus we loved hanging out with him and it was gonna suck to not have him around anymore. We got a taxi to the airport and went through security before finding out that the travel agency guy kinda screwed us by telling us the flight was for the 7th when it was actually for the 8th. Of course neither of us actually checked the ticket so again it was our fault but it sucked to have to go back into Kuta and stay another day when we had already said our goodbyes. The only upsid...

Another broken down bus on a trip to the Southern Hemisphere
posted by:
Jun 02, 2006 - Sep 07, 2008
People i met here, who contributed to and improved my trip: Juliana (Russia) Our time in Malaysia had come to an end and we caught an early morning bus from Kuching to Pontianak, ready for a new country and hopefully a whole new experience. We reached the border by 'express' coach around 10.30am and were pretty quickly into Indonesia, as we already had our visas issued in Kuching. The first sign that we were in a new country was the obvious decline in the standards of the roads. Th...

30 is a big number! I can’t believe myself I’m turning 30 today.   Make a list of achievements cure my anxiety. The Cebu Pacific flight SJ 759 from Manila got delayed for an hour and it touched down at Jakarta International Airport at past 1:00 am. As I was clearing through immigration while trying to stay awake and conscious, I noticed that the airport was almost bare, silent, and semi-dark. I was still woozy from trying to keep my eyes wide open and was staggering to keep from falling as I went through baggage and Customs. After Customs clearing, I proceeded to the Exit ...

Where should we spend our honeymoon? My wife and I had gone over this topic several times. Six months before our wedding took place  we remembered an invitation we had received a year ago: "Come, visit us in Indonesia!" Friends of ours, Doris and Michael, were living in Malang (Java) in those days. Why not? We had never been to Asia before. Should be exciting. Let's go!Some months later we were on our way. We had to fly from Duesseldorf (Germany) to Kuala-Lumpur (Malaysia), then to ...

Bali, at last!

It was very hot and muggy on arrival at the Denpasar Airport.  I stood in line at the customs/immigration desk for quite some time-- only to find I was in the wrong line.  I should have been in the short line with the Indonesian Nationals, as I already had my visa.  Unfortunately, there was no way to know, as there were no signs.  I cleared customs and made my way outside. It was very crowded -- planes full of Australians, Koreans, Chinese and others all crowding through ...

My first trip is Prambanan Temple, the largest Hindu temple compound in Indonesia, located in Central Java, approximately 18 km east of Yogyakarta. When the devastating earthquake in 2006 sturck this area, it brought Prambanan to heavy damaged.

I woke up at 3 o'clock in the morning and prepared myself to be ready and half an hour later I woke up my first daughter, Arin. Just right before we left the house, I woke up Raya. She was ready to go before going to bed. She had changed her cloth and brushed her teeth.   At 4.15 we left for airport. We arrived at airport 5.30. After we prayed shubuh, we had breakfast. When we finished, just in time Harisko and his brother, Irfan, came. After saying goodbye to my husband and my brother...

Ths dive site has black vulcanic sand on the bottom and is home to some of the weirdest fish I've ever seen. It's like all spikey or hairy fish made this their home. Lost my dive computer here, so first one to fnid it can have it. It's probably still beeping and telling me to ascend ;-)
