Indio Vacation Guide
Back at the very beginnings of this area just prior to the turn of the 19th century the main land use here was agriculture. The growth of citrus trees and dates kept the economy alive and well for many years. The railroad helped establish the town.
Growth has been slow until recently as the city of Los Angeles has continued to expand outward. New homes and recreational areas like golf courses have taken most of the agricultural areas. What was an area of near 50,000 in 2000 is now much greater.
Today the area is known for its Festivals. Not only food festivals like the annual Tamale and Date festivals held in December and February, but an abundant number music festivals of all varieties.

There is still a place in town where you can get lots of date foods. And date shakes are still on the menu. It was just turning 5pm as we w…

Updating one of my first Travbuddy entries! I'm back working at Dos Palmas, the fan palm oasis in the California desert, east of the Salton Sea, at the base of the Chocolate Mountains (yes, these are real places...)
