Hit and Miss - The first 2 days in India

Heathrow airport had been pretty easy t manage.  Security was a 2 minute stroll through, small terminal and easy bag drop since I checked in the day before online.  No trouble.  Sauntered onto the plane to find that we had to sit on it for an hour and a half before it left, thanks to some debric on a runway or something.  Great, BA and Heathrow at its best.  Still my luggage arrived with me at Chennai airport about 11 hours later with the delay, at a local time of&nbs...

Living in India

This is my first blog and Im not a very good writer but here it goes:Even though I was pretty young and it was a while ago, I still remember India vividly. I was born in the States but moved to India in 1995. I even remember the first day I got there, after getting off the plane I threw up because I ate too much chocolate on the airplane. I learned my lesson. Im suprised that at such a young age I wasn't scared of India. The streets had people with missing limbs that would come up to you...

The Raj and the rest

Less than 24 hours to go before we leave India. We cannot believe the three months has gone by so quickly, and so enjoyably, and so trouble-free. It's been a great experience in a great country, and we're already thinking about which areas we'll visit next time. So - ending with a few thoughts that just didn't seem to fit in elsewhere. Army aphorisms. India has a huge army, with a regiment in almost every town we've visited. It's got some superb barracks areas here in New Delhi, including th...

Well...the Monsoon has hit the west coast of India and today in Pushkar we had a little taster trailer. As a result I had to wade through the street in water up to my knees to get to the internet cafe to write this. As a strange aside, on my left I had a young kid (maybe 8 years old) on my left, playing games on the internet and to my left is a respectable looking India dude having cyber-sex with a young Thai teen. Day 1 - Delhi, India Leaving was hard. There were lots of tears at the airp...

Exploring Delhi
posted by:
Jan 25, 2008 - Feb 22, 2008
Let me just start off by saying if it wasnt for Bernie I would have been left at the first over priced hotel I was lead to. Then when I ventured out I would have listened to the first stranger I met who gave me some "advice" on where to go shop and the kicker, I would have learned that despite what my map says the train stations in New Delhi arent really there. I am not being a smart ass about this either the people of New Delhi are very attimate about where they want you to go and ...

It's getting late and it's been a full day. Some highlights are some personal time with Guruji today which tends to leave me in a state unlike any other. I'm just equalizing now and it's been about 7 hours. We are having a personal meditation time with him tomorrow morning from 5am -7am which is when the traditionaly Sunday morning service begins. We will be under the banyan tree again. I know in particular he will be examining my progress since initiation day, he asked and told me today as i...

Day 1: sightseeing
posted by:

On Tuesday our M&I-group would visit another engineering company, DHV, together with the Energy & Materials-group in the afternoon. We did not have an official programme in the morning, but I decided to visit a Hindu temple and a Sikh temple in Delhi together with Erik, Casper and Charlotte. Edo decided to stay in bed that morning, because he was still feeling a bit sick. The four of us were able to fit in the back of a tuktuk together and our driver promised us to wait for us if we w...

Visited Sikasar Dam, the nearest dam from the Raipur city. As for me, that's not just another dam, it's the most beautiful dam i've ever seen. I really feel it's uniqueness and hope that someday it will be promoted as part of tourist attraction of the state. Please feel free to view my Sikasar Dam exploration gallery @ http://travel.webshots.com/album/557925846PALpcK

Arriving at Kolkata station was an experience. It was 6am - and the light as we travelled slowly into Kolkata was beautiful- and atmospheric. But as I got off the train - the usual mayhem. I averted my eyes from the people having a poo on the tracks, then tried to fend off the many porters who swarmed at me as I tried to walk along the platform. C'mon - my backpack was on my back - what did they expect from me?Then, as I approached the taxi stand (the number of yellow cars parked there was tr...
