I had a fantastic experience trekking the Inca Trail in July/August last year, the guides and porters were peerless. The food that was prepared on the trek was unbelieveable, 2 and 3 course meals for lunch and dinner. The porters work superhumanly hard, they made me feel inadequate, the lack of oxygen at altitude really takes it out of you, whilst the porters roar past and up the steep climbs with about 80lbs on their backs.
I cannot tell you the name of the guide company as they were booked by our overall tour company (Tucan Travel) You must book the trail walk as soon as possible as places are limited and it is very strict, you must book with a copy of your passport and you get the passport stamped as you enter the trail. Machu Picchu at the end is surreal, it was not visible from the Sun Gate but the cloud lifted as we descended to reveal the beauty that is Machu Picchu Part of the Peru 2006 travel blog
