Il Scusate Ritardo

In front of Pantheon we both were breath taken by the view of the building and the livelihood on the square in front of it. I totally enjoyed the scenes and the different shades and nuances of orange on the facades of the houses surrounding the square. Enjoying all this we decided to have our diner here at the square even though we knew that we would be sitting in one big tourist trap like a fish in the net.

We were hi-jacked by a man in pin-stribed suit standing in front of the restaurant Il Scusate Ritardo and he offered us a table in the front row to the scenery of the square. The tables were nicely set, the chairs were ok but like everywhere where the ground surface is made of cobblestone the table was wiggling like a drunken sailor first night in harbour.

We had both a zuppa de cozze for starters and the mussels were good and we were happy with it. On top of this I took an insalata di tonna and Kaija an insalata di pollo, both the tuna and the chicken salad were very boring and of very low quality.

The service didn’t care much about us after we were seated, it was clear that their business plan was based on getting the tourist to sit down and then slowly drain them for money but first priority was to fill the tables. Overall we were treated ok but I saw a lot of other customers that were treated really badly.

Very expensive but also very very nice! This restaurant is located on famous the Piazza della Rotonda. That means you have dinner on one of the oldest squares of Rome with a view of the Pantheon. And that's not all.... The food is great! We ate here several times now. The first time was in 2006 but this year when we visited Rome again, we went back to this restaurant and it's still great. We ate carpaccio di manzo which tasted great in this restaurant. After that, i had grilled squid. Yummmm! The best i ever had. Honestly. We ate so much that we couldn't have desert anymore but i remember from the last time that that was amazing as well. The atmosphere was great, i don't have to mention that again do i? On the evening we were here, AS Roma had to play a soccer game so there was a screen outside for those who wanted to see the match. That was really nice, it made the evening really Italian. The waiters from all the restaurants on the square went to see it. I've been here a few times now and the next time i'll go back to Rome, i'll have dinner here again!
