Stunning church Nov 26, 2010
Entrance fee - 3.50 Euros, which gives you access to the church, museum and catacombs.
The church is by far the most stunning and exciting part for your entrance fee. Although the architecture is gothic in part, the carved wooden artwork which dominates the interior of the church is baroque. This might offend an architect, but as a novice art-lover, I thought it was simply stunning and the incredible amount of detail deserves a longer look.
While most museums are crammed with wonderful objects, this museum doesn't quite live up to such standards. There is a decent amount to see, and a lot of it is centuries old. However, you get the impression that it is just placed there for something to occupy the tourists with, as opposed to something which heightens your appreciation of the church.
I thought these were pretty cool to visit, and the meeting rooms upstairs were very smart too!
The catacombs were used before public space was available for cemeteries. Lined with dead bodies, I thought the catacombs would be creepy but they weren't. It was just a very quiet atmosphere.
This place is definitely worth visiting and worth the entrance fee. The real highlight is the church though, so I'd spend the most time there and visit it first. Treat the other two places as just some things to finish off with before leaving the area.
