Idaho Springs Vacation Guide
Idaho Springs, Colorado was founded in 1859 when gold was discovered in Clear Creek, which now runs right through town. It is located about 30 miles west of Denver and has a population of about 2000.
The town is located right off of I-70, and it’s proximity to Denver makes it an excellent place to stop either on your way to Denver or on the way out for a bite to eat. On Sunday nights or long weekend Monday night I-70 eastbound traffic is very heavy with Denverites returning home from their recreation. It is often a good idea to stop in Idaho Springs to wait out the delays. There are several excellent restaurants, notably The Buffalo Restaurant and Bar and Beau Jo’s Pizza. The latter is a Colorado institution with several other locations, but this one is the original.
In addition to the restaurants, Idaho Springs has several motels and nearby there are a couple of mines, The Argo and The Phoenix where you can take tours. Whitewater rafting and horseback trips can also be arranged in town.
Overall the area is an excellent day trip from Denver with beautiful scenery.

The kiddo's wanted to go rafting...I had been on a rafting trip before, but they had not. They had no idea what they were in for. We picked up a brouchure for Raft Masters and selected the intermediate trip down the river in Idaho Springs, CO. This trip had mainly class 3 and class 4 rapids and was…
