Tourist gimmick, try it in summer Jul 25, 2012
The ice bar in Oslo is part of a chain and seems somewhat bizarre that you pay $25 to go and stand in a big freezer and have a drink.

The temperature in the ice bar is -5 degC and you are given a cape with hood and gloves to wear for your 45 min session. If you need to borrow boots you can, but I recommend that you bring your own socks.

The walls/bar/limited seats/glasses are made from ice from northern Sweden and they are beautiful. I was somewhat disappointed that the ceiling was a suspended ceiling just like in my office and the floor metal.

Many cocktails are based on aquavit which is a Norwegian spirit and there are virgin cocktails and hot drinks also available.

During the winter months Oslo is naturally at this temperature, so save your money and just stand outside on the street to get the sensation of cold and ice.

If of course you're there in the summer then it's more different and despite my slightly negative review I have been 3 times with visitors who wanted to experience it. The cocktails are nice and the room is interesting just not great value in the winter when you can sit on my icy balcony for free.

Icebar Experience Feb 16, 2011
If you have never done an ice bar before, you should have the experience at least once. It was really cool ice art inside, a great vibe, nice people, warm in the capes, and so cool with an ice luge and ice glasses. The hot drink I had was also fact ALL the cocktails were delicious. Expensive, but worth the experience!
