Ibo Overview

Ibo Island is an ancient Portuguese Outpost, which was inhabited by Arabs, Portuguese, Chinese, Indians and off course Africans. Today the legacy of this mixture can be seen in the local Mwani culture and the racial feature of the local inhabitants.

Seating in the beautiful Quirimbas Archipelago, it is one of the 32 coral islands which makes ups the archipelago.

Rich of an ancient jewellery making art, you can still find today, silversmiths using traditional techniques and tools to slowly make the beautiful jeweleries.

Mostly fishermen, it is now changing to a tourism destination favored by Eco-tourism lodges such as Miti Miwiri (mitimiwiri.com). The island is currently undertaking large construction projects of new lodges and guest houses. This will probably transform the place into a upper middle market tourism destination.
