Ibis World Square Hotel Sydney Reviews
Simple budget type hotel near Sydney central Apr 29, 2015
I chose this Ibis hotel for 3 nights because of the name brand and location was very close to the Sydney central station and also close to everything you can imagine of.
The downside I thought was it wasn't really worth staying in that tiny room with tiny bathroom for the money I spent.
The hotel is strategically located just opposite to the busy shopping mall area, the World Square Mall, along with other shopping plaza, variety of restaurants from various countries, and what not. Everything is within minutes walk from the hotel and there is no need for taxi to go anywhere unless going the airport or train station with heavy luggage.
The hotel is somewhat a tall building hidden and sandwiched with neighboring buildings, so the windows can only be found on the front and backside rooms of the building.
The hotel entrance can be missed sometimes, however, taxi drivers should be able to spot and drop-off at the door. The lobby of hotel is pretty cramped with few seating area. The counter staff were reasonably friendly but did not provide enough information about the hotel and surroundings. However, the check-in process went smooth though it took some time for the staff enter all the information and assign a room at 9pm.
Due to the safety measures, the room key card is required to operate the small elevator which I felt sometimes bothering once you get into the elevator and searching for the key card.
The room I got is not really what I was expecting, it was ridiculously small and cramped like some budget hotels in Asia. Literally, not much space to leave the luggage and walk around the room..everything I felt was uneasy especially moving around the bed or just changing.
The room was a huge window with rolling blinds and privacy curtain, however, the view outside just faces other building like any other downtown hotels.
The beds were tiny twin sized (that's what was avaiable when I booked) and it wasn't even staying firm on the floor because of the wheels they had! So, to me it was very basic and thin bed without much comfort. The sheets and pillows were OK but not great.
The bathroom was little annoyance because of its size and layout. It was not my thing and I wasn't hoping such a name branded hotel had a such tiny design of everything! I liked the transparent standing hot shower with nice shower head..maybe that's the only plus in the bathroom!
I did not bother to check out their room service menu and stuffs, because there were so many places outside especially Thai, Chinese and many Asian food all around. There is a Thai restaurant immediately to the left side of the hotel entrance, the food there was very delicious!
For many Sydney attractions, it possible to either walk or take a short train or bus ride from the Museum area. There are many connecting trains from Museum to most attractions around Sydney.
The main reason I liked this place is because of the local and access to everything. The Sydney central station is only about 10mins walk and other nearest metro train station is Museum station within 2 blocks. It was very convenient from this location to go anywhere in Sydney because of the transportation.
