Ibis Bangkok Nana Reviews
Very nice and affordable hotel close to nightlife and train Jan 25, 2011
Ibis Nana hotel is an excellent place to stay if you are looking for a great nightlife, close to trains, shopping, bars and many other things that Bangkok offers! The hotel itself is pretty decent and looks very new and cozy!
This hotel is about 20 kms from the international airport and it takes about 40-50 mins to get to the hotel depending on the Bangkok traffic! The metered taxi from airport would cost about 400 Bahts including tolls and 50 Bahts driver charge.
The online room rates seems to be a value for money and it is very reasonable for the location and activities around. I paid about 1400 Bahts/night plus tax not including breakfast for double beds.
The hotel features a nice outside dinning, inside bar, meeting area, business center with computers and internet access, tour desk, very spacious restaurant near the lobby and a free WI-FI within the lobby area. Some room rates include a buffet breakfast, but it does not cost much for the buffet breakfast at all. I paid about 99.00 Bahts for the good breakfast buffet...so many choices to eat, including orange juice and coffee. This hotel does not have a pool! I really enjoyed the meeting area and the inside bar...it was a great place to hangout!
Friendly hotel staff speaks decent English and were always ready to help. I had a very early check-in the morning at about 10AM, but no questions were asked and I was given a room for no extra charge. Hotel staff will always help with the door, luggage and taxi service with smile.
The room that I got was at 5th floor and had a nice city view. The room size was not that big enough and it is hard to place a big sized luggage, and not easy to move around..I guess this kind of room sizing is becoming very popular in Asian countries when compared to north America. Obviously, the bath is not big either with capsule shaped shower being tiny. But shower had hot water and water pressure which are plus! Overall, the bathroom was cozy and well kept. The beds were firm and comfortable with clean sheets, pillows and white comforters.
The room amenities include mini fridge, 21'' wall mounted LCD TV nicely mounted on the wall surrounded by wooden frames, electric kettle, coffee/tea supplies, wooden closet with hangers, electronic safe, small chair, wall mounted desk/table, phone, hair dryer, room air conditioner, a dressing mirror and two complementary bottles of water per night!
Even though the hotel is located in the heart of the nightlife, the hotel and rooms are so quiet! I never had any disturbances or loud noise. I felt very safe in this hotel as the hotel had 24hr security at the entrance and at the lobby level. There are so many restaurants, bars, stores around the hotel within minutes. There is a 7-11 store, money changers, internet cafe, saloon, laundry, massage, etc., within blocks from the hotel. The hotel also offers free Tuk Tuk ride (motorized 3 wheeler) to the nearest BTS station Nana. If you get to this station you can travel to most places around Bangkok by sky train. By walk it takes about 10-15 mins to BTS Nana station from the hotel.
The hotel charges a late check-out fee of about 700 Bahts to check-out by 6PM. After that I guess they charge a full night rate.
I will definitely consider this hotel in future and will recommend this place to anyone looking for a budget type, yet decent stay!

A brand new hotel in Nana area Mar 28, 2009
This is a brand new hotel. It was opened in February 2009. So, when we stayed here during 28-30 March 2009, it have just recently opened for one month. Because of that, we have a promotion price, each room costs only THB 1000 including tax and service. Normally, with the same class, we should pay at least THB 3000 (= USD 90)
Since it is a brand new one, all of the furnitures, decorations, bathroom, everything was new. Unfortunately, the staffs are new too. They seem could not handle check-in process in an efficient way.
When we checked-in, there were 3 staffs at the receptionists. However, they were seemed unexperienced, always asked the manager who stand behind them and giving many instruction for how to input the guest's data and everything. Very unproffesional! Even, one of the staff always told me to be patient whenever I approached the desk for asking if it is already my turn to be processed for the check-in. Then, two other guests (not only one!) came into the lobby and they were served before me and I was left alone, sitting in the sofa, wondering why they skipped me and served other 2 guests first. Very upsetting situation!
After 45 minutes of waiting, finally one of the staffs served my request for check-in. It was clear that she could not speak English very well. Only the basic standard needed to serve the guest! Then, the strange thing happened. One of the staff who was standing in front of the restaurant all this time (seemed that he was in charge for the restaurant) handed away the hotel trolley to me. You know, the mover that has 4 pillars to carry out your luggages. But, nobody push this trolley for me. There was no bell boys at all! So, I just forgot the idea of having a bellboy, pushing the trolley full of our luggages to the rooms like in a normal hotel experience should be. We just grabbed each of our baggages and reached the lift with these 6 big luggages. We have to do it all alone by ourselves. What an amazing service! In a negative way!
So, the biggest flaw of this hotel is the incapability of the staffs to perform such a standard normal procedure in serving people and that is definitely very awkward in the hospitality world!
The hotel is also far from the nearest BTS (Bangkok Train Station). It is more than 600 m to get to Nana BTS. At the time we stayed there, the heat in Bangkok is unbelievable! My friend who lives in Bangkok said that it is the hottest month of the dry season in Bangkok. That's why it was very miserable to walk along Sukhumvit Soi 4 where the hotel was located to reach Nana BTS.
On the other hand, Sukhumvit Soi 4 is a very touristic street. You can buy almost anything, from meals, fruit, beers, whatever. The night life is very hot! A lot of bars and billiard places if you like that kind of lifestyle.
Well, that's all of my review on Ibis Bangkok Nana. I hope they improve the skills of the staffs soon so they will be much better in the future.
