Ibis Amsterdam City Stopera Reviews
Ibis Amsterdam City Stopera Jul 26, 2013
I like Ibis, and was looking for something central, and this turned out better than planned. Right on the far edge of the Red Light District, but it could be a million miles away, as there is no sign of it around the hotel.
Chose the easiest, not the fastest way to find the hotel, coming out of Centraal and going up to the main road and turning left. A bit of a walk along to get to the road the hotel is on, but it's straight, and you can work out the quick route through the Red Light District later.
First impressions were good and check in was completed quickly. Free wifi, with the code changing every day, but they give you a leaflet explaining it and the pass codes are printed off anc kept in a bread basket at the reception for you to help yourself.
Bigger than it looks from the front as it extends to the back, and the rooms right at the back overlook the canal, probably worth asking for. The rooms were relatively small, especially for 3 of us, but they were clean and warm, and the beds were comfortable.
Nothing really round the hotel, except the fire station across from it, bu a short walk, turning right coming out of the hotel and there is a big supermarket up on the corner. Carrying along that street you'll find the Rembrandt House, and bars and restaurants before you come to the Red light area.
Didn't eat in the hotel, but did go to the bar, which was quite expensive for a disappointingly large beer ( not a litre :D ).Restaurant did look to have a decent enough menu. Breakfast in the morning is served in the bar area, and on a nice day there is a courtyard that you can sit out and enjoy.
Overall a nice stay in a comfortable environment, and close enough to get to anywhere central in a short time walking.

Ibis Amsterdam City Stopera Overview
Located in the centre of Amsterdam, close to the Waterlooplein and a short walk from Central Station.
A good Ibis hotel with a good location. jg/03/2009.
A modern, purpose-built hotel.
Located on the ground floor, behind the bar area, the restaurant is also attractive with modern flooring and there is a garden with a deck where people can have breakfast.
The bedrooms are medium in size but are larger than the majority of the rooms in Ibis properties in Benelux. They are in very good condition and have recently benefitted from a make over where the colour scheme is a more attractive cream and beige, with wooden flooring and LCD televisions, along with a media hub in all rooms. The bathrooms are also in good condition and although with shower only, the showers are large with glass doors and are generally quite modern and attractive.
The lobby was renovated in 2009 and is large and spacious with marble floor, limited seating and leads to the large bar area which has also been renovated in an attractive dark wood and red colour scheme and which offers ample seatin and a small bar menu.
2 km to the nearest station (central), 2 minute walk to the nearest bus stop, 2 minute walk to the nearest metro station (waterloo plein), 20 kms to the nearest airport (schiphol), 5 km to the nearest fair site (rai).
