Iberville Suites New Orleans Reviews

my new home when in new orleans Sep 30, 2008
i visited new orleans for 4 days covering the easter weekend. i split my stay between 2 hotels. i closed out my trip by staying sunday and monday nights at iberville.

at first this place was like a maze. hard to find the elevator that leads straight to the lobby and not the ritz. ended taking the stairs lots of times. there were a couple times i got outside and remembered i'd left something in the room. each time i just left it because i didnt feel like making the "trip" back to the room.

honestly i was VERY pleased with the room. usually my only requirements are location (close to where i want to go and do), cleanliness (please please please dont be a roach motel), price (atleast give me a fair price) and security (dont burglairze my room and dont rob me in the parking lot). iberville met my expectations in each of these areas.

location: the hotel is located at iberville and dauphine st. literally the very next street over is bourbon. this is significant because i spend a good deal of time there. :-) close to the action but amazingly quiet.

cleanliness: not the most high end furniture but it was clean and comfortable. one thing i did notice is that the bathroom wasnt cleaned well. (hair in the shower from when i shaved the day before)

price: for the location and quality i think $80 is a great rate.

security: there are safes in the room to place valuables. the room doors has that "flip over thingy" (you know where a chain would be) anyway nobody can get in the room when you're there. even with a key. when i slept, i closed and locked the door to the bedroom(from the living room). even outside, being so close to bourbon there's people around. less chance of being 'caught' alone and becoming a victim of something.

parking: theres a self parking lot at burgundy and iberville. so from the hotel one block one way is bourbon. one block the other way is this parking lot. (didnt use it dont know the price). theres also another parking lot across the street from the hotel. standing on the balcony in the hotel lobby. toss a rock and you'd literally hit the side of the parking lot building. its valet.

breakfast is complimentary. dont hold me to the exact times but for some reason 6-10am is sticking with me. plenty of orange juice. cold cereal with 3 kinds of milk. make your own waffles. begals. muffins. its a nice spread. gets crowded tho and there's not alot of seating.

only negatives i can think of is the elevator situation. guess they did the best they could seeing how its more than one hotel combined (joined with the ritz carlton). second negative (to me) would be the low water pressure.

all in all i figure, with any hotel, if you look hard enough something can always be found to complain about. in my opinion iberville is a good value. if i can help it this is where i'll stay each time i go to new orleans.

The Iberville Suites is like the redheaded stepchild of the Ritz Carlton. It's basically a building in the alley behind the Ritz where someone built an elevator to the Ritz. The Iberville doesn't really have any of its own amenities; if you want something, the front desk tells you to go to the Ritz. Like, want food? Go to the restaurant at the Ritz. Need a map? I'm sure the Ritz has one. Require the internet? The Ritz has a business center -- go over there. How about a massage? Hey, the elevator goes to the Ritz spa!

So you end up skulking over to the Ritz Carlton, sort of unsure if you're really authorized to be there. Like, does the Ritz know the Iberville is sending all its guests over to use the amenities? Is the Iberville simply the Ritz for poor people? Is that bell boy going to kick me out? Who knows. Of course, all the ameneties that would be free at the Ritz comes at a price for Iberville guests.

Well, the rooms are nice. They're suites. Mediocre water pressure. I think we got a room for about $80 a night -- since the rooms are suites, it's a great deal if you have several people in your group.

That's funny, I thought the same thing. I am getting married there and we were looking for different hotels for family and when we went there, we were really confused. I've never seen a hotel do that.

Seems like a good idea. Build a dirt cheap hotel next to a good hotel just to send all the guests there for recreation :)

Anywhere in the French Quarter (Royal St) area or the Garden District. I went to Jazz Fest, we had a small suite for 3people at the Iberville Suites, on Rue de Iberville (1.5 blocks off Bourbon). Included breakfast. was about 300 nite, but that was during Jazz Fest and pre-Katrina.
