Wonderful shrines and food Feb 22, 2013
Located very near a metro station, this temple is rather distinctive because of its dome and “ISKCON” lettering that can be seen on the approach. This is the New Delhi branch of the Hindu temple belonging to the ISKCON “Hare Krishna” sect. Aarti (light prayer ceremonies) are held several times a day but the one around 12-12.30pm is likely to be the most convenient. The shrines are nicely laid out and always very well decorated. Every Sunday, after lunchtime aarti, they have a small lecture and free meal feast which can be attended by all. It helps if you know Hindi, but even if you don’t, it could be a worthwhile people-watching experience. The galleries are rather good and a nice bookshop is on site. Apart from the shrines, I really love their food shop here. A wonderful array of sweets and savoury snacks are available for purchase (which are holy, as they have been offered to the god Krishna). It was excellent quality that I would stock up on snacks or picnic lunches here every time. Considering that this temple is very close to the iconic Baha’i faith temple, I would consider visiting this temple as part of your tour in this part of New Delhi.
