Religious experience Feb 20, 2013
Belonging to the Hare Krishna sect of Hinduism, this ISKCON temple is a little religious gem in Kolkata. If you get lost for directions, referring to “ISKCON” with the locals will get you some helpful pointers. The temple is open for worship during the early morning, lunchtime and evenings to see aarti prayers taking place. I recommend the Sunday afternoon feast too, which consists of a small lecture, devotional singing and a delicious vegetarian meal served for free. This can seem a bit much if you do not speak Hindi or are not highly intrigued by the religious practices. At the entrance, you can purchase sweets for very good prices and they also have a small gift shop selling books and other devotional items. Great to visit if you are a Hindu, but even if you are not, this place is very welcoming and it’s a wonderful people-watching experience.
