Vandaag zouden we een vrije dag hebben op het eiland Hydra. Dit hield natuurlijk allereerst in dat we konden uitslapen en gezien de tijdstippen waarop iedereen zijn/haar kooi uitkwam werd dat wel gewaardeerd. Na een gezamenlijk ontbijt en de afwas ging ik, samen met nog drie anderen, de berg op naar het klooster dat daar ligt. Dit bereikten we na zo'n kleine twee uur lopen. So the thing (I've noticed) about the Greek Isles is the uneven balance of supply & demand.  The locals pretty much have you at their whim regarding prices - so I've ended up spending a small fortune here.  However you can't really deny the beauty though.  I suppose for travellers not operating on a shoestring budget, the prices would be well within reason. Hydra isn't very large & there are no cars, etc for transportation/delivery.  Only donkeys.  ...

Hydra and the other islands in the Saronic Gulf

Today we need to get out of bed a bit earlier at 08:00. We have a frappe buy postal cards and stamps. At nine the ferry leaves to Hydra and that is an island you have to see/ we take the ferry and the boat brings us first to Methana after about 1 hour. Methana is a small city on the mainland of Greece. It can be a busy city, especially during high season. A little bit later we sail through the narrow canal between Poros and the mainland.
