Hyatt Regency San Antonio Reviews
Hotel on River Walk in San Antonio Feb 02, 2003
San Antonio hotels are numerous to find clustered around the River Walk area, which is one on the big draws for tourists here, besides the famous Alamo. River Walk is basically this large man made urban park with a river running through the city which made use of some of the natural landscape of the area to make it possible. There are many waterfalls & fountains, trees, walkways, shops, restaurants and entertainment. It is quite a pleasant area to roam around and enjoy. The restaurants are excellent and live music easy to find here while enjoying a drink. So, when staying in San Antonio, River Walk is really the place to look.
This hotel, the Hyatt Regency, is located right on the River Walk, and has an exit that leads right out to all that the area has to offer. Being centrally located too, it is not far from many of the other tourist attractions in the city. The interior of the hotel is very nicely set up and has this milti-tiered atrium lobby area centered around pools with small fountains of water surrounding them. The atrium area soars 16 stories up and can be viewed from many different vantage points. Around this area you can also find the lobby bar and hotel restaurants to enjoy a meal or drink in the open area with the pleasant sounds of water, a good theme since it reflects the ambiance and spirit of the River Walk. The hotel is also plant friendly and there are many here creating a space with a natural vibe.
The rooms themselves are fairly typical of what you find in a Hyatt, comfortable, enough space, good bed, TV, refrigerator and coffee maker. The bar and restaurants here are typically overpriced like most business style hotels, but right out the door can be found any variety of food or drink you can possibly think of. In fact, even if the hotel were reasonable priced for food and drink, why would you want to? The multitude of choices are right outside on the River Walk for the better experience. Many of these places on River Walk have optional outdoor seating too and much better musical offerings than hotel music. Out on the River Walk you’ll get some local flavors and music to suit your tastes to dine with.
This perhaps sounds like half hotel review and half River Walk review, but the experiences are interconnected and sort of inseparable. The hotels along this urban park and river are essentially part of the River Walk in how they are integrated into the dynamics of the place. In that sense the hotel experience really is part River Walk experience and in synch with the heartbeat of the place. The staff are typically Hyatt helpful and found them particularly knowledgeable about the River Walk area for advice. Overall this was a very nice place to stay in San Antonio and there was little to complain about here. Although I stayed here in 2003 when the hotel was around 20 years old, it was still very nice. I understand, however, that is it got a $20 million dollar makeover in 2010 with many improvements and added design features.
