Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa Reviews
A Refuge Near the Texas Hill Country Oct 04, 2009
On a whim, I decided to drive from Houston to Austin, Texas for the Easter weekend in April. I had heard good things about Lost Pines so I decided to treat myself for one night.
The Hyatt Lost Pines is in a fantastic location beside the Colorado River. The hotel is located a few miles from the road (Highway 71) and getting to the hotel itself can be slightly unnerving as signs are posted warning of flying golf balls and horse crossings.
Lost Pines is a great place to go if you are just looking for a relaxing break to unwind. There are hiking trails beside the river along with old time rocking chairs on the porch, where visitors can just "sit for a spell". I enjoyed sitting in my rocker with a glass of wine watching the sunset. The hotel is set up like an old ranch house and is very comfortable.
Lost Pines also offers amenities for children, including a great swimming pool, along with an area to make smores. Several families were making smores the evening I was there.
The hotel is located about halfway between Bastrop and Austin, Texas. There is not much on the main road in the area so on the down side, if you don't want to spend money at the restaurants on site(which were pricey), I recommend bringing your own cooler of food/drinks. The closest food stores on the highway seemed to be a convenience store or a pecan farm.
Another down side is while the Colorado River is beautiful (and there is a park on the other side of the river), there were also signs warning of snakes and poison ivy. I was walking along the river in the evening when I heard one family yell at their little boy to stay away from poison ivy.
I recommend Lost Pines but only if you want to treat yourself to something special. While the grounds are beautiful and relaxing, the hotel is remote. The price is also very steep for the budget unless you are really looking for a one-time treat. The cost was very expensive for a hotel.
