Hyatt Regency Hotel Austin
I enjoyed stayed at Austin's Hyatt Rengency hotel in December 2008 for the first night of the Austin/San Antonio TravBuddy meetups. This was not my first experience there.
In 1985, I worked as a computer headhunter in Kansas City. I was approached by another recruiting company to join them in Austin. Truly, one of the reasons I relocated was this hotel, Austin's Hyatt Regency.
The company booked me here on a visit to check out their firm. The Hyatt was a brand spanking new property at the time. It's located on the Colorado River, just down the street from the Texas Capital building. But what stood out the most then, and still does today, is the hotel's second floor restaurant that serves THE WORLD'S BEST FAJITAS!
As a Christian, I believe that one day there will be a Marriage Supper in heaven. I don't know what everyone else is going to eat, but I'm counting on this Hyatt Rengency's fajitas and blueberry cheesecake :-D
Oh, by the way, since this is a hotel review, the place still has a terrific location, looks fresh, has remained updated, offers nice rooms and has an attentive staff. But, OH, the fajitas...

Let me just say this - they have Cranium!!! It was great, seeing the excitement in my friends' eyes when this was mentioned. The putty was all dried up though, so we ended up skipping all the Sculpterades. But aside from that, FUN...
With the way the building is shaped, every room has a view. Mine was over the Congress River Bridge, right where the bats come out at night in the summer. The decor of the room was modern - gotta love the flat screen! The bed was comfortable...
While it is not IN downtown Austin, it's pretty close. Just across the water by the Austin Stateman building. A cab ride from 6th and San Jacinto is less than $5.
Staff at the front desk and front of the building was always smiling and friendly. No noise curfew like at the Omni downtown. So my only complaint would be that dirty coffee mug I found in the room.
