Hyannis Overview

Hyannis is a town of about 13,500 (down 14% since 2000) located just south of US Highway 6 in Barnstable County in Southeast Massachusetts. Hyannis is probably the most important town on Cape Cod and is often referred to as the "capitol of Cape Cod". Certainly this is a popular tourist destination and I liked the town a lot. Hyannis is one of the main ways to get to the islands off the coast (like Martha's Vineyard) and was a popular destination for former president John F. Kennedy and the entire Kennedy Family.

Hyannis has an impressive historic area with a number of buildings of historical and/or architectural interest. Many of them are along Main Street or around the harbor.

Hyannis has a few museums of great interest. One of the most interesting is the JFK Museum in the old City Hall.
