Hurricane Ridge
Hurricane Ridge Reviews
Wildlife and Beauty within reach Mar 12, 2009
You can reach nearly a mile in elevation with a trip to Hurricane Ridge, where you'll find a visitor center and nature trails. Beginning early in the morning will increase your chances of seeing wildlife and help avoid the larger number of visitors later in the day.
You will usually encounter dense fog in spots on the drive up the mountain, so use caution since there's very little in the way of guard rails. Also, deer are often on the road and you might not see them until the last minute. The views from the visitor center are breath-taking and you'll see deer walking nonchalantly around you. If you have binoculars, you might even spot a bear further down the mountain. |

The mountain part, here on Hurricane Ridge, is similer to what we saw in North Cascades and Glacier parks. We saw several chipmunks and a Bald Eagle up on the ridge as well.
Our next stop was Crescent Lake, where we hiked the trail up to Marymere Falls… Olympic National Park |

My plan for the day was to immediately head into the park and up to Hurricane Ridge and then out Obstruction Point Road and head into the backcountry for the day. Obstruction Point Road is kind of freaky, it's a 7.6 mile, 1-1.5 lane gravel (but well graded) road that gets significant usage. What makes the road… Out to Olympic National Park |
