Huntsville Overview

Huntville, Texas is home to a Texas Icon - "OL Sparky" which is currently decommissioned and housed in the Texas Prison Museum for all to see.

Home of Sam Houston State University, Huntsville is currently home to approx. 35,000 people. This provides a small town feel but only one hour away from Houston, therefore providing a multitude of opportunities. Huntsville is one of the oldest cities in Texas (founded in 1835)and remains key to the Texas criminal justice system. Huntsville is headquarters to the TDCJ, houses several prisons, and the state of Texas's execution chamber. This provides Sam Houston State with one of the top Criminal Justice programs in the nation and allows the students many real life studies and internship opportunities.

The Texas Forensic Science Commission is also based here.

Going north from Houston on interstate 45 there is a large statue of Sam Houston clearly seen from the interstate with a museum. Huntsville was the home for Sam Houston after Texas Independance as the Republic of Texas.
