Vienna is an amazing city, lots to see and do in a pretty compact area. Once you have done the Imperial palaces, Mozart stuff, Freud stuff, gone to the Prater, and had some torte, if you still want more to do and if you like architecture you should check out Friedensreich Hundertwasser's 2 amazing buildings in Vienna, both in the 3rd district close to the S-Bahn -- the Hundertwasserhaus (an apartment building) and the Kunsthaus Wien (a museum). His style is very different from anything in Vienna, trees growing out of windows, undulating floors -- its all very organic and colorful. There is a nice cafe' on a terrace at the Hundertwasserhaus, and then you can walk through the neighborhood to the Kunsthaus to see an exhbibit of Hundertwasser's work and an interior of one of his buildings. The Hundertwasserhaus doesn't cost anything to visit, you only see the exterior and the Kunsthaus does have an admission charge, but its a great way to spend an afternoon

That is, until I paid a visit to the utterly remarkable Kunsthaus Wein here in Vienna. I had started off my day a little later than expected… Today was the day I fell in love with Hundertwasser and Picasso |

In front of the building there is a little touristy place called “The Village” where they sell Hundertwasser souvenirs. I don’t think that he designed the center, but they’ve done it following his style. There is a neat bar in the village with a little stream of water running down the middle of the marble bar and ending in a little… The last day in Vienna - Zentralfriedhof, Kunsthaus Wien, Hundertwasserhaus... |

I had seen a picture of the Hundertwasser-Haus in the guide book It look very similar to Gaudi’s work in Barcelona . It is an apartment building created by Friedensreich Hundertwasser in 1985. It combines elements of a Moorish mosque with features of Spanish villages and Venetian palaces… Bright new day |

Hundertwasser was an architect who believed that nature should be a part of the city, so he designed this fantastic apartment bloc with trees growing out of it, and interesting colors and shapes in the middle of an old Vienna neighborhood. I had lunch there… Rock Me Amadeus |
