Huggo's on the Rocks Kailua Kona Reviews
Above Average Location:below average food Jun 29, 2009
Huggo's is located in a perfect Hawaii area. When we walked in we saw one of the tables over looking the water was available. We were pleased to get it. We were surprised the chairs were not average height. All of us were not comfortable with the lower chairs. We ordered an appetizer of fish tacos... very average tasting. We didn't feel it was very impressive. It was from the table ad and was $3.00.
The prices were a average but high for what you are actually getting. Valerie ordered soup with a tossed green salad and a single shrimp. ($7.95 + 2.50) David and I both got a prime rib sandwich at $10.95. In actuality it appeared to be a french dip sandwich without the dip. They were not perfect but they were good...
Our waitress alternated between friendly and deaf. We were surprized... actually shocked.... at the number of flies who rudely decided to share our food. We ate and waved our hands trying to keep them at bay... yikes.... it was the first flies David and I had seen although we had been on the island for a week...
We were there at happy hour and got our drinks for $3.00 each (beer & wine). After that the prices of the drinks raise. We tossed around the idea of watching the sunset but although it was only another 1/2 hour we decided we needed to vacate the table so the flies could rest.
This is one of the few places we cannot rate highly. It was dirty, the chairs were too low, the food was average, the waitress had Jeckle/Hyde syndrome and the flies were frustrating. We will not be going back to this very average restaurant with a million dollar setting...
