Hudson's Field: Camping near Salisbury Jul 11, 2008
Hudson’s field was named after a mayor of Salisbury during the 19th century who was called Hudson. Here there’s a camping & caravanning site which faces the ramparts of old Sarum Castle, the village of Stratford lies just about a mile off. Low flying planes come over from serum airfield, Boscum Down airfield & Highpost runway, apart from that it’s very peaceful with only people walking their dogs & flying their kites. Sometimes you can hear the guns on Salisbury Plain thudding away; they can go on until 11.30pm!
Unique Qualities: The site is a 30 minute walk along the river Avon from Salisbury. A visit to the city is a must, with its shops & stunning cathedral. Gliding, fishing, horse riding & cycling are all within easy reach of the site. The Iron Age settlement of Old Sarum, conserved by English Heritage, is close by. There’s also a pub nearby called The old castle which has a harvester restaurant, you can sit outside under heater lamps. 150 Pitches for campers, & non members are welcome.
Facilities are: Toilets, showers, washing-up sinks, laundry, chemical disposal point, play area for ball games.
