Ancient Spa for different classes of people and Indoor 'sea' comfort Dec 27, 2008
Huaqing Pool & Palace is situated about 35 kilometres east of the city of Xi‘an. Part of the main itinenary should you take on one of those numerous East line tour packages.

Historically, it begins from Western Zhou dynasty who initiated the construction. By Qin Dynasty, a pool built with stones and given the name of Lishang Hot Spring. The site was then extended into a palace and renamed as Li Palace during the Han Dynasty. By Tang Dynasty, Emperor Taizong ordered the constructin of the Hot Spring Palace followed by Emperor Xuanzong who built a walled palace around Lishan mountains. Now it is called Huaqing Palace and hence Huaqing Pool too.

What i found intriguing about this place is how modern spa took place in historical times. How gigantic the bathing pools for the Emperor & concubine were built, the amazing water flow of using hot spring water for cooling before bathing usage, the conservation of Emperor bathing water for use in the next few bathing pools for Concubine and officials. Not forgetting how romantic the Emperor can be by enjoying indoor wavey bath and indulging in sparkling nite star views above the open-air rooftop.

This place is most reputed for the love nest of the Emperor Xuanzong for its beloved concubine,Yang Guifei. And made famous in the well known poem 'The Eternal Song of Sorrows' by Tang poet Bai Juyi. Xuanzong was overly infatuated with his lady that he have forsaken his daily running of the administration indulging in his womanizing life, which ultimately resulted in the downfall of his empire under his rule..
