Yellow Mountain most impressive Nov 22, 2011
Yellow Mountain Mt. Huangshan was very impressive, every bit as much as the articles and pictures on the Web suggested. There is significant walking involved and it is not a place for those afraid of heights. The mountain is much cooler than below. Be aware that one must take a bus to the gondolas. This trip and the gondola ride seemed pricy to me but the views were stunning. One should plan to bring warmer clothing to the mountain, even on an oppressively hot July day I could see that this would be needed. One should also bring water and food as it is much more expensive on Mountain. The biggest tip I can offer is to sleep in a little bit before going up the mountain. Unless you have plans to hike all over the mountain you can get a very good feel for the mountain with only 3 to 4 hours on top. You won't see Fairy walking bridge or 1/2 dozen other sights mentioned but I'd suggest that it isn't 100% necessary either. If you sleep in a bit you'll have the advantage of avoiding the crowds in the early morning. Plus, going in the afternoon I didn't see even one megaphone wielding Chinese tour guide with a throng of Chinese hanging on every word.

The Sunset is Overrated May 19, 2011
Huangshan is one of those attractions that can't really disappoint. If you're visiting Shanghai, you aboslutely have to spend at least a day in Huangshan. It's up to you whether you want to spend additional days hiking the different trails or visiting the pretty towns in Anhui province. But either way, don't plan it all around the mythical sunset\sunrise. If you're short on time, make it a day trip and focus on the hair-raising weastern trails and spectacular Grand Canyon. You won't regret it.

The Ultimate Yellow Mountain (Mt Huangshan) Nov 30, 2009
Together with the Yellow River, the Yangtze River and the Great Wall, Yellow Mountains has become one of the great symbols of China. The strange pines, absurd stones, sea of clouds and hot springs are the four wonders of Yellow Mountains.

Located in the southern part of Anhui Province, the Yellow Mountains are a marvel within an area of 154 square kilometers. There is a crowd of peaks, 72 of which have names indicating the shapes they resemble. Lotus, Brightness Apex and Celestial Capital are the three major ones, all rising above 1,800 meters

The Yellow Mountains Scenic Area extends about 40km from north to south and 30km from east to west. As an important national scenic area, Yellow Mountains was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1990.

From ancient times the Yellow Mountains has been frequented by tourists seeking their mystery and admiring their scenery. They come to the conclusion that the strange pines, absurd stones, sea of clouds and hot springs are the four major attractions of the Yellow Mountains. As a matter of fact there are marvels almost everywhere.

The mountains are a body of granite, often with vertical joints. Erosion and fracture contributed to shape the rocks into huge columns, giving rise to lofty peaks and deep ravines. When it is cloudy the pinnacles loom in mists as if they were illusionary, while the sun is shining they unfold in all their majesty and splendour.

The Yellow Mountains change their colour and appearance with the alternation of seasons. In spring blooming flowers decorate the slopes in a riot of colour and fill the valleys with fragrance; in summer you see verdured peaks rising one upon another and hear springs gurgling merrily. Autumn dresses the mountains in red and purple as maples are all blazing-red; winter turns them into a world of frost and ice with silver boughs and rocks everywhere. So from ancient times it has been frequented by tourists seeking their mystery and admiring their frequented by tourists seeking their mystery and admiring their scenery. They come to the conclusion that the fantastic pines, the grotesque rocks, the sea of clouds and the hot springs are the four major attractions of the Yellow Mountains.

In Huangshan, there's a place called Yellow Mountains. On the mountains you'll definitely get a nice view of the sunset and sunrise depending on which direction you're facing. It's a landmark, so ask around for anybody who is in the area. Usually there are nice sunrises everywhere over the mountains, so make sure to watch out for them. I would post morepictures of them, but this site forbids it apparently. But look for them on google and you should see a bunch of them. Hope this helps!

Just back from Huang Shan yesterday...bad weather and too foggy. Not being lucky enough to see the sunrise or sunset over there.

Should plan to go there some time later...to try my luck again...
