Huan Saran Guesthouse Pai Reviews
Huan Saran Guesthouse May 24, 2013
Huan Saran reminded me to European boutique places with second floor veranda and room that are accessed from the balcony. Price of the double room with bathroom was standard 300 baht which is ok for Pai (but you can find cheaper places a bit away from the center). Hotel is a bit after the temple, in the area that is full of good restaurants and couple of hotels. On the first floor they feature small restaurant with bunch of tables and chairs on terrace like platform and rest of the floor is occupied by family that owns and runs the place. They were very helpful and I really like that way they take care of this place. Second floor is where all rooms are lined up, and the whole floor is simple but beautifully designed wooden construction with accents on the doors and windows. Doors totally remind me on the doors my grand mom had on her old house with many small windows on the large frame. Main difference is that in Huan Saran they exchanged see trough glass with multicolored pieces that give you privacy, add lots of light to the room and even more color…
One large staircase takes you to the second floor and first thing you come to is a little “lounge” area with few chairs, hot water for coffee and tea and bunch of books that previous people left behind. I did not find anything interesting to read, but options are there…
Room spreads wide open in the front of you when the doors are open and very good and comfortable bed occupies middle of it. There are AC, fan and nice flat TV in the room and also many places to charge your electronics (that is the part that is usually missing). Floor is so perfectly done, that I wish I have that in my apartment back home. Internet is pretty good and strong, but they were changing something with the router so we had to get the passwords few times.
Restroom is equally great, done with simplicity and taste. Doors to the restroom are not closed usually, but if you are in the room by yourself of someone who can stand you well… who cares hehehe Big shower head is one of my favorites but there is also a “normal” shower handle.
I think that this concept of large front door and almost total openness to the rest of the people staying in the hotel is really great. Usually you move around in the dark hallways and close/lock doors with numbers behind you (I did not see any numbers on the doors in Huan) and you are effectively separated from rest of the people. With this openness it looks more like community that is inviting and wanting to enjoy its surrounding. Maybe I am over thinking it… but Pai and surrounding valleys are really magical and if you get there, you should use some of that magic and not be just a tourist that comes, sees and leaves…
I liked it here, and next time I am around this will be the place to rest a bit.
