Hua Hin is a Thai beach town on the road south from Bangkok, and while its increasingly popular (and boasts a Hilton Hotel), it's still off the Thai backpacker trail and well worth a look for that reason alone. The sea front consists of a rocky beach and rows of bars. There's also a great night market, plenty in the way of traditional thai food and lots of affordable hotels (though Cha Am, up the road, is still cheaper and has a better beach). If you want some down time, or simply want to mingle with a few locals who are a touch less exposed to the Thai tourism scene than in most spots, this might be your place.
