Howard's Lodge National Park Reviews
Friendly place Jan 19, 2012
I arrived by bus in National Park and had not a clue where to go stay. This small village with only a few streets is in the middle of nowhere. So close to the place the bus stopped was this lodge. The Howard's Lodge. I went inside there. A man who was in the same bus as I was, was already waiting at the reception. He booked a private room. I booked a bed in a dorm room. The dorm rooms were in the building next to where the reception was. It was quite silent at the lodge. There was not much to do and it was silent at the lodge. I took a look around town, although there also was not much to do or see. In the evening other people came back from doing some walking trails that day. The Howard's Lodge has a shuttle service that goes twice in the morning and goes back to the lodge twice in the late afternoon. There are two dorm rooms I think one for men and one for women. The first night there were two other guys in the room. But I think the next two nights I was alone.
This place is an excellent place to stay I think. It is a friendly place. There is a woman working who comes from the USA, but went here many years ago and just stayed. She is very interested in how the guests had it at the walking trails and always asked to see some pictures.
I put the location on average, even though it is probably one of the best locations in the area. There is just not much around here. In the evening it is silent everywhere. But on the other hand, people come here for activities and I noticed myself that you are exhausted at the end of the day. You just want to hit your bed.
Amenities are good here. They even have a spa. If you stay in the dorm rooms, you have a shared bathroom. It is in another building next to it. So you have to go outside to get there. It is all a very clean place. I would not have mind to stay there longer. I even got a discount on the staying. I don't know exactly what anymore. But it had something to do with getting the shuttle service for free if you stayed like three nights and did do the Tongariro Crossing.
Definitely worth to stay here when you are staying in National Park
