how to get to sagada from manila Apr 21, 2009
Sagada is a little town located high and deep in the cordillera mountains in the philippines at 1500 meters above sea level. In the beginning, it was very hard to get there and takes time, because the roads are not yet well paved, but now, halfway, roads are well constructed except if you enter the mountain province where sagada is located. Landslides and falling rocks and boulders still occur.
overall from manila the journey to sagada takes 12-14 hours. But it is recommended to stop over at baguio city, to recuperate from the long journey from manila and to be fresh from baguio to sagada.
here are the tips to go there:
1. From manila to baguio, you can buy tickets at any victory liner bus stations located in metro manila either in pasay city, quezon city and manila, the website is: http://www.victoryliner.com/
you canot buy tickets online, it is better to buy tickets in advance at the ticket counter. Victory liner is my recommended bus station as it has the lowest accidents of all the bus stations going to the north.
from manila to baguio there are two stop in the 6 hour span - 1 in tarlac city where you can refresh and buy snacks and the 2nd one is sison in pangasinan before ascending to baguiot at 2000 meters. The stops are every 2 hours.
the price one way is 445 pesos or 7 euros one way.
2. From baguio to sagada, the bus terminal to sagada is located at dangwa bus station, near session road and the center mall. The bus line is called lizardo transit. The timetables are 5:30 am until 10 am only. As it takes 6 hours to go to sagada, so afternoon bus will not be opted as it is dangerous in the evening to drive in the mountain road.
*however if you were late, you can catch a bus going to bontoc, the capital of mountain province and from there catch a jeep to sagada but the jeep is only until 2-3 pm.*
the price of the fare from baguio to sagada via lizardo transit is 220 pesos or 3.5 euros
from baguio to sagada there are again 2 stops in the 6-7 hour span, first in atok, benguet and the second one is at bauko, mountain province. The stops are in between 2 hours.
*the ride is bumpy as hell!* but through narrow mountain roads and passes in the cordillera mountains, plus a great fantastic view of the the vegetable and rice terraces along the way!
