Surprising family hotel in great vineyard setting Sep 20, 2013
Hotel I.A.Q.U.I.N. is situated in the hamlet Vipolze in the charming region of Goriska Brda, a hilly corner in the country of Slovenia, a stonethrow from the Italian border.

Amidst the vineyards, the black rectangle hotel Iaquin - a contraction of the familyname Jakoncic and the word vino - is notable from far.

Unos Jakoncic is the dedicated host with a great passion for wine making. As soon as he noticed that we are very interested in wineculture, he presented us a few of his self produced wines. He started in 1999 and got his first wine on the market in 2006. Nowadays he produces about 8,000 bottles a year with a.o. Tokaj, Rebula, Malvazija and a blend he called Jak. Personally I liked the Tokaj on oak (not to be mixed up with the Hungarian wine region) most. Fortunately we had some space in our car left to store some boxes with bottles...(not all 8,000!)

The design hotel was built in 2009 with a trendy modernistic architecture. It offers bed and breakfast. The delicious breakfast (no buffet) with the usual meats & cheese supplemented by pancakes & strude is at the ground floor in a small restaurant with lounge music, bar and a big sliding window door to the swimming pool surrounded by a small lawn.

There are some parking possiblities right in front of the hotel at the farmyard.

All rooms have airco, room-high windows and balcony, offering a splendid view towards Italy overlooking the vineyards of Brda and Friuli. Main colours of the interior are black and white.

We rented the deluxe suite on the second (top) floor. It had a big bath room including walk-in shower and twin sinks.

I can highly recommend the extraordinary hotel, although it has some minor points of critic.

First, the hotel has a few detailed malconstructions. Especially the boardwalk around the pool needs some attention. The wood is curved by the sun and is a possible hazard for your toes...

Second, but this can also be a positiv factor, the hotel is in a rural setting (which we liked!), so you need a car to get there and to find a restaurant. By the way, Uros can give you fine suggestions!
