Most of us Phoenicians have never stayed in a hotel in or near our airport, so it's hard to make any recommendations.  My best piece of advice is to go to this site:

http://phoenix.airporthotelguide.com/

there are many hotels near and around Phoenix International, so take your pick.  If you want cheap, I feel it's of import to define cheap.  Do you mean "rat and cockroach" infested dump for $29 a night, or something moderately priced and decent, like holiday inn for $65 a night?

Arizona's prime hotel season is, of course, during the winter months.  However, whether there is a distinction between the pricing of popular resorts vs. Phoenix Airport hotels, I haven't the faintest.

What  I do when I travel? I always go to www.Hotels.com.  there you can customize your searches to how much you want to spend, plus the deals are always great! i stayed in a castle in Italy, last may, for $135 a night!
