Hotel Vivaldi Amsterdam Reviews

Tiny and basic but decent Sep 25, 2010
Cheap accommodation in Amsterdam is hard to find and this hotel turned out to be cheapest option on the weekend we staid in Amsterdam.

Hotel Vivaldi is excellently located just outside the historic center and right next to the Heineken brewery. It's about 15 minutes' walk to Dam Square.

We booked a budget room with bunk beds and were worried what to find after reading all the negative reviews on internet, but it turned out quite ok.

We got a really tiny room towards the back of the building. The room had a bunk bed, a chair and a really tiny wardrobe and that was it. There was barely space to move between the bed and the door.

The bathroom however was rather spacious and almost the same size as the bedroom. I had the impression that the bathroom was recently refurbished.

Because of the location towards the back and an extra door to separate the 2 rooms at our corner from the main corridor, the room was rather quiet and I did not need my ear plugs at all.

The room and sheets could have been cleaner but it was not as filthy as stated on the internet comments. The sheets had been washed but contained permanent stains.

The single glass windows let the cold air in but a well functioning central heating easily compensated.

The breakfast room on the ground floor was dirty and worn down. It's not very appealing having to look at the piles of garbage outside while eating. The selection was rather sober with cereal, bread and crackers, ham and cheese and jam. Coffee and tea came from a self service machine.

On the plus side, the staff was friendly and helpfull. Late check-in was no problem and we could leave our luggage at the reception the entire day.

It's strange however that in a Dutch speaking country none of the staff appeared to speak or understand Dutch.
