Hotel Sudu Araliya Polonnaruwa Reviews

Beautiful surroundings with noise and stench of constructions. Feb 11, 2012
This hotel is full of contrasts. There are many positive points and some negative. And that in combination with terrible construction work which took place at every corner of the hotel.

First, we were welcomed very well. The staff at the lobby were very friendly.

Before we checked in we decided to view the room first. The room was absolutely gorgeous! It had lots of space, high celing, many big windows overlooking the lake. The beds were large. Bathroom was very good too. It looked more like a ballroom. It al seemed very comfortable.

Secondly, the pool was great. Immediately after checking in, we have swum and chilled on the pool beds. You must ask the pool staff for towels and mats though. Otherwise they will never take action.

First afternoon at the pool was some smoke with stench from the burning garbage. We didn't really bother. Second afternoon the same thing happened only with serious construction work everywhere. We just returned from the sights and hoped to be able to relaxe a bit. The noise of construction was unbearable. The only thing we could do is to sit inside. It was ridiculous how limited we were at that time.

We tried to complain at reception, but we were told that it was not their problem. We were even more annoyed by this lax attitude towards the guests. They just assumed that people stay away during the day.

Eventually we got a small discount.

Just before sunset the construction workers stop their work at the hotel. Only then the silence comes back. And at that time it is here very pleasant again. Next to the pool is a large garden where people can enjoy the sunset. Also in the garden is a spa treatment building. It didn't look very attractive because of the poor man next door living in a dirty shed. He too was burning his garbage. That's not really what I want to smell when I get a masagge.

The restaurant was OK. But not worth coming back. Second evening we dined outside the hotel. The waiters were sniffing their noses al the time. Sometimes they were spitting too. Not very pleasant when you are eating.

Yet we have slept and showered here very well. And we were irritated quite often.

This place has been renovated recently. It is comfortable and the staff is really friendly. Note, they have wifi, but if you are a Dialog Mobile Customer, go into the bar area and get the number where to send an SMS. By sending an SMS message you can get 3 hours of wireless, versus the 1 hour you get for 250 rupees from the front desk! Rooms were very clean and big. Nice place, I would definitely stay there again.
