Hotel Sol Cayo Guillermo Reviews
Brilliant! Jan 28, 2010
We went to this hotel for a 2 week package holiday from the U.K.
We had read a lot of reviews about this holiday and many of them were bad, but i can honestly say i dont have a clue why.
On arriving at our hotel we were greeted by friendly bell boys who took our luggage one side while we collected our key and we were also presented with a welcome drink, very refreshing after a 9.20 hour flight!
We got told to make our way to our room where the bell boy would deliever our bags. This was a nice chance to look around the hotel without having bags to carry.
Once in our room, we turned the air conditioning on which was wonderful, we had a ground floor room with a large terrace. Our room had 2 king size begs in it, a fridge, t.v with satalite and a wardrobe with a safe inside, which your door key operates at no extra cost.
you also get given a slip of paper letting you get towels from the kiosk, you can change you beach towels as often as you want and when you leave you collect the original slip to return to the reception.
The bathroom was also nice, very "morrocan" we thought in theme, this had a hairdryer in, the shower was situated in the corner of the room but far back and acted as a shower room. This was bright and clean.
We did have a leak in our bathroom, we didnt report it until around 7pm, however they sent someone out and by 9pm it had been sorted.
There are 3 places to eat at the resort, the main buffet restaurant which i must say was excellent. So much choice of food, there really is something for everyone. There are also chefs cooking fresh food for you but you do have to wait, im guessing that during the summer season the wait is a bit too long, but i think its worth the wait for the quality of food.
The other 2 restaurants you need to book for, one is an international restaurant, which is very good. It is heavily fish orintated, however i dont like that much fish and i still found the restaurant to be very good. The last restaurant is an Italian by night, again you have to book, this is ok, not as popular as the other one, but is still good. During the day this is a beach bar and you can get very good quality food from here, which is not buffet, and you have good service from here.
On the restort there are a few shops, these are good, you can pick up essentials and can also send post cards and by stamps.
Something that we did find frustrating during the two weeks is that there are always people who man the reception, however if you have anything to ask them they direct you over to customer service, which is a different desk and there is never anyone manning it.
We had a problem with our door key a few times as it wouldnt work to open, once taken to the reception they reset the key and it worked again.
The main bar is 24 hours and the staff are friendly enough, this is also situated in front of the stage, so if you wish to watch the entertainment you can stay in the bar if you wish!
The 24 hour snack bar does not exist, between the hours of 11 and around 6 you can get toasties from the bar area and these are good.
There is also a t.v in the corner with some sofas and books people have left if you want some peace and quite or to watch the football when its on.
The pools are good there are 2 one small one just for babies and then a large free form pool with sunbeds around it. There are life guards and medical people always close, they have gardeners who are happy to bring you coconuts to drink from, there is also a very friendly waiter Oscar, who brings you drinks while you are relaxing by the pool. We did tip him alot on our visit but he doesnt make you feel as if you have to. You can request a matress to lay on top of your sunbed, we never did.
The beach is fantastic and certainly the best on this side of the island, there are tractors who come and clear plams away that have washed up on the sand. There are many sunbeds for use down there too. There is also activites that are included in the price, whick are kyaks, catamarans and peddalos, this is brilliant and fun.
further along the beach there are other resorts and a few beach restaurants, these however are not included but make a change if you want something different.
I would recommend this resort to anyone looking to stay on the Cayos, i had a fantastic time and would think anyone who goes would too.
