Hotel Sofitel Bora Bora Motu Private Island

Sofitel Motu is located on a small island (motu, in tahitian) in the lagoon surrounding Bora Bora. The hotel has a small number of rooms, equally divided between over-land and over-water. The Sofitel Motu is the higher-priced, more exclusive partner of a larger Sofitel resort just over the lagoon on the main island. There is a free shuttle between the two hotels and as a Motu guest you are free to use the facilities of either one. (The regular Sofitel guests, however, are not supposed to go to the Motu).

The over-the-water bungalows are fabulous. They have plenty of room, air conditioning, a two-tier outside "deck" part of which has shade and part of which is in the direct sunlight. There is a ladder leading down from the deck into the water - this is a VERY convenient feature if you plan on swimming or snorkeling.

There is ample coral around the motu on which the hotel is situated, making it one of the very best places to snorkel on Bora-Bora. The water is very warm and relatively shallow, so you can snorkel for hours at a time without getting cold.

Bora Bora is a beautiful island, and is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. It's an ideal place to snorkel, relax, read, etc. If you are looking for shopping, action, adventure, nightclubbing, and so forth, this is not the place to find it.

One last word...it's not cheap. Prices on Bora Bora are high anyway, especially for food. The food is of excellent quality, but expect to spend a lot. Make sure you research this and plan for the expense.
