Hotel So Reviews
Bargain and funky May 09, 2008
An absolute bargain! Booked via Expedia for a single at 25 pounds a night (60 NZ$...). On arrival got upgraded to a double.
The room is small, but packed with lots of features: mood lighting, plasma TV, AUX connection (so you can connect your iPod, with the purchase of a cable, unless you already have a cable), alarm clock, see-through shower and is all very compact and functional. The bed was very comfortable and with the light-dimming - you'll be in for a very sound sleep. I didn't hear anybody else outside the room, so the sound-proofing must be pretty good. There's a bar and semi-restaurant next to the lobby. In the basement is a fitness centre and a laundry. They have free Wi-Fi, or you can pay for cat-5 network access (think it was something like $10 a day). My only niggle would be that they have quite a strange booking policy with staying at the weekend - I can't remember the precise details - it might be that you have to stay the whole weekend, not just one day. We arrived in Wanaka and checked in to the Wanaka Hotel, which was an amazing hotel. I managed to get a room to myself, with a TV, fridge and ensuite with mountain views for 7 quid... 'yabba-dabba-do' is the expression that came to mind. I had an early night after a pretty exhausting… New Zealand adventures |

…friendly man takes us to his company car and from this moment on we have an ongoing conversation until we unload our luggage at the hotel. He hands us a second set of vouchers that we can use to “pay” for our hotels and transfers (we paid for all of this in advance), along with a bunch of brochures and some discount coupons. The man talks about the weather and grumpy… The longest day |

We had dinner in the hotel (another Millenium hotel) and it was the best meal of the trip. I had a venison appetizer with a glass of wine and then my husband and I shared a large cheese plate (which had 5 types of cheese, several varieties of fruit… Saturday in Christchurch for art, food and new friends |

I'm now in Christchurch at a hotel that might put the Custom Hotel in L.A to shame. It's called Hotel So and is as trendy as Custom. My bathroom has Mood-lighting, it's currently set on heart mode (I suspect that might mean love). For 25 pounds (can't find… TranzAlpine and Christchurch |
