historic Sandakan May 30, 2008
This hotel heralds back to the good old days, when the English ruled over Sabah and Sandakan was its capital. The hotel has been refurbished extensively and has little old school charm anymore. But it is quite classy looking. There is a small area in the lobby that sells some great books on the local history and its famed American resident, Agnes Keith. It is walking distance to everything in downtown Sandakan, from businesses, market, the waterfront, and food places, ranging from local Malay gerai to KFC outlets. It is also convenient for getting to the Tangga Seribu (which were broken when I stayed there but did not stop me from scaling them anyhow!). The room is very comfortable and has wireless Internet in the room. I would stay here again.
