Hotel Rothaus

I picked Hotel Rothaus because it was the cheapest hotel I could find close to the railway station in Zurich. It is Europe, so I didn't expect it to bother me that it is in the dodgy part of town - but I was taken aback at the line of white-helmeted riot police lining the street one block away, and the cluster of large tattooed and scarred men hanging out just outside the hotel waiting for something to happen. Nothing did and the place is probably completely safe, but it didn't feel safe. Once you are inside the gated complex of Hotel Rothaus the rooms are flawlessly clean and everything was nice enough, although pushing together two single beds to pass it off as a double is a pet peeve of mine.
