Boutique hotel concept sparkles here... Apr 08, 2008
Nestled on Sutter in San Francisco's lively Union District, the Rex gives overnighters a superlative hotel experience. The place has a freshly re-done look that takes it back to the 1920s literary "salon" days. It feels like the sort of place where you might run into F. Scott Fitzgerald, Hemingway or Dorothy Parker. It's somewhat tall and narrow, giving it an intimate feel without being overly cramped. Staff are excellent and respond very quickly to guest requests. Rooms are indeed clean, if rather small. However, suites are actually oversized, unexpectedly so. The Rex is part of a mini-chain of boutique hotels called Joie De Vivre. I think their execution of the concept is perfectly in line with their name. |
