Hotel Plaza Alta

Cozy, luxurious rooms: this hotel often has steep discounts, no doubt due to it's location. If you need to stay in Holesovice this is a bargain.

We didn't exactly 'choose' the Plaza Alta. Lastminute.com runs a service called 'top secret hotel', its a mystery hotel booking, you don't know where you might end up, but its guaranteed to be a 4* hotel within 15 minutes of the 'tourist attractions'. When I was on the site the top secret hotel gamble was going for 52pounds a night, that's the same price as the hostels and 3* hotels that we have stayed so far (also over the weekend). I couldn't resist it, we rolled the dice and got the Plaza Alta.

Given that I have relatives in the Holesovice area this was terrific news and pretty lucky for us! I will try not to let any bias into this review. It really is a great hotel with everything you can except from a 4* rating: a fantastic comfortable room and a great bathroom. We especially liked the colors: classy dark green hues and golden lighting made the room feel warm and homely.

It is the location that might be seem a bit out of the way if you're looking to do some sightseeing in Prague. From the Plaza Alta you need to walk for about 10 minutes to the nearest metro: Nadrazi Holesovice (red line) or catch the tram (there is a tram stop across the road from the hotel). Be warned, Holesovice (like many parts of Prague) has a few thieves, especially near the metro stop.

I am not sure what the full rates would have been, but a lot of websites offer good deals for this hotel, make sure you get the discount!

WIFI? Yes - the reception will provide you with a password, when it expires after a few days they will simply give you another one.

Helpful staff? Yes, they are friendly.

Good food? Fantastic breakfast buffet. Room service not recommended.
