With a very central location in Balbeek, you'll find this friendly small hotel. It has a lot of atmosphere and has words of being one of the German archeologs favourites.
Behind a very long and straight staircase right from the street, the hotel is located on the second floor in the building. A guard is sitting in the street looking after the security. Across the street another part of the hotel is located, with reception and breakfast-room as well as some hotel-rooms. When entering the hotel I was strucked of how clean it was, and the floors were polished shining like a 'dancing-floor'. The common-room were decorated with arabic and european styles. It contained a large fridge with a freezer for use of the guests. My room was a double for single use and contained a nice bath-room. Since it can be very cold up here wintertime, the rooms are equipped with separate boilers, very nicely polished like they never been used.
The owner is a medical doctor who has his clinic in the premises. He has lived in France for many years and speaks French and English very good.
Breakfast is served in a kind of ball-room nicely decorated and furnitured in an antique style. The instant coffee was served in plastic cups and the breakfast was picked up by a staff at some local bakery. It was nice though. Well, this is a good place to stay at for a night or two.
