Hotel Papa Germano Rome Apr 25, 2010
My German friend, Barbara and I stayed in this hostel which I booked for our Rome trip. The hostel is close to Temini terminal station (stazione), like 5 minutes walk.

The staff are friendly in general. We had a twim room at 75 euro a night. We have TV and A/C but we never use the A/C at it was still spring that time. Bathroom is shared and there are 2 bathrooms. One is pretty big, but do not expect a bathtub in it. The staff clean the room everyday. So you will have a good sleep at night, :P. Do not worry it is safe and secured.

At the reception area are computer terminals free for use. I uploaded some of the pictures thru the computers in the hostel. Do not expect a fast internet connection specially when most terminals are in use. The other room next to it is the dining hall. We have our free breakfast here: bread, coffee, croissant, ham and eggs. Breakfast are generally good. You can pack some croissant to go. lol

Clean, Cheap and Close to Termini Jun 03, 2005
Hotel Papa Germano is a quick fix for a hotel in Rome, being located very close to the main train station, Termini. There are actually a lot of hotels in the area where Papa Germano is located, so even if there are no rooms available here, there are plenty of others to choose from. It’s a simple place, but clean and not too expensive, with ready access to the train station for roaming about Rome, so to speak. I would advise going farther away from the main train station, however, when looking for something to eat as you will find the food better and cheaper. Overall, this is a good option if you wish something close to the train station, clean, and not too expensive. The staff does vary here and I usually find it polite and pleasant, but occasionally not all that considerate or helpful. It’s the Italian way sometimes and not meant to be rude, but just abrupt and busy with other things. Don’t take it personally and you will get along fine here.

I think with Italians it's all about your demeanor. If you don't appear too impolite or pressed for time they will attend to you, but if you act like a rude tourist you will likely be ignored. Some aggressive attitude is expected, but not to be overdone - all in a balance of expecting service but giving time for that to occur. Appropriate greetings can go a long way. Buongiorno is good for anytime of day, but you may be more specific in the afternoon with 'Buona Sera' or just 'Sera' as Italians sometimes do, skipping the Buona. In the evening you can use 'Buona sera' too but when the day is done and it's time for bed you use 'Buona Notte'. Italians respond to proper use of these greetings. This is just some advice from my experiences in Italy that will gain you some respect and, through that, some service. This is not to say you will always get the service you want, but counts if you have some good demeanor about it and understand Italians and their etiquette. After being friendly for a time, you may even use 'Ciao' for both hello or goodbye.

Hotel Papa Germano Overview

In 1969, the Hotel Papa Germano was a small family managed inn. Over time, the business has grown to become a two star hotel, recommended by numerous international travel guides. With the help of a friendly, qualified staff, the family continues to manage the hotel with the same enthusiasm and passion as in the past. The hotel is located in the center of Rome on a quiet secondary street only a few minutes from the "Roma Termini" central train station, the main departure point for reaching the city's major tourist attractions, historical monuments (the Coliseum and Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain, Via Veneto, Piazza Navona, Pantheon and the Spanish Steps), city airports (Ciampino and Fiumicino Leonardo Da Vinci) and the Vatican City (St, Peter's Basilica, Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel). The hotel was recently renovated, and has rooms both with and without private bathrooms, all of which are with the finest amenities (telephone, satellite TV, air conditioning and hairdryer). Furthermore, in order to meet the needs of young travelers and students, a portion of the building is used as a youth hostel with common sleeping quarters (dormitories) with truly convenient prices (maximum 3-4 beds, all with standard amenities). The hotel offers a large continental breakfast served buffet style every morning, an internet point and a free baggage depository at the reception. Friendly, multi-lingual staff will be happy to provide advice regarding tours, organized trips and museums (San Callisto and San Sebastiano Catacombs, Villa Adriana and Villa D'Este, Ostia Antica, Galleria Borghese), and can provide all the necessary information to make your stay relaxing, pleasant and interesting.
Amenity - Free Breakfast.
